[Egypt, Cairo and Kuwait, ca. 1944- ca. 1978?] [sound recording] / collected by Martha Roy.

Recordings consist of classical music, folk music, religious music, Koranic recitation, lectures on Middle Eastern music, and Ramadan festivities from 1975. The classical selections are composed and performed primarily by Middle Eastern musicians on both Western and Middle Eastern instruments including 'Oud, Nay, and Kanoon. The composition types consist of choral works, symphonies, concertos, and a variety of solo and small ensemble pieces including Taksim. The folk music selections consist primarily of ceremonial songs, muwashshah, and mawwal. The source of the recordings include Roy's fieldwork, a June 2, 1959 radio broadcast by WNYC and UNESCO, and several discs released by commercial recording companies including His Master's Voice and Baidaphon.
